In the Spotlight: Marmolada ‘Queen of the Dolomites’

Standing at an impressive 3309m and  270 million years coming into being, the peaks of Marmolada are the highest in the Dolomites; offering both breathtaking scenery and hours of fun for skiers and snowboarders alike.

Ascending to the peak of Punta Rocca is not an altogether straight forward journey from the valley resort of Arabba, but you’ll be glad you ventured out as soon as you are on the first cable car up from Malga Ciapel.

It’s Snowing!

AT LAST… it’s been a long time coming this autumn but finally the snow has started to fall across the Alps and it’s making up for lost time in a big way. It’s absolutely dumping and more is forecast over the next few days; it’s settling on solid cold ground and promising a fabulous base for the winter.

TIGNES – Conditions up to now have been good in the high areas & glacier but with fewer slopes open than usual for this time of year. That’s all about to change, finally it’s dumping! The terrace at Chalet Hotel Les Melezes in Tignes Les Boisses at 1900m is covered this morning.

DOLOMITI SUPERSKI – Kronplatz has had several runs open since the last weekend of November & several more opened this weekend. A light snowfall last night has improved conditions & more is forecast over the next couple of days. Alta Badia has a few runs open, as does Cortina, & Val Gardena.

We still have some availability for a white Christmas in the Italian Dolomites, Tignes or Paradiski, either for a full weeks stay or for a short ski break

I’ve always got to fly from Bristol, and can never get a flight to fit with our set time transfers.  I’ve done the car hire option in the past, which works really well for a short break costing from around £70 for a small car for three days from http://www.holidayautos.co.uk
